Timeless Christmas Gifts : All-time Classic Fragrances

Christmas is finally on its way! It is my favourite time of the year and I can't wait. There's many great things great about Christmas, but one of them is definitely the Christmas shopping. You know what I'm talking about.

I think that perfumes will always be such a great gift for the sisters and girlfriends. Not just any perfumes though, I'm talking about the classics.

You know how you're wearing a new perfume, and suddenly a male someone, stops and goes, "You smell good today.". Us ladies here would know that such scenarios are rare. Men are hardly the most observant when it comes to hair, makeup and even fragrances. Well, at least where I come from. This I believe, is the ultimate test that any perfume must pass before earning it's title as a 'Timeless classic'. This wasn't just my observation alone, conversations I had with other ladies too, confirmed this.

In my lifetime, I've only crossed paths with three fragrances that earned such a title. The first is the Chloé Eau de Parfum. It's not too floral like Dior's J'Adore L'Or, yet not too sweet like Juicy Couture's Viva La Juicy. It strikes a perfect balance between the two, all whilst having a burst of femininity in each spray. This is my personal favourite fragrance of all time, with this bottle being my second one. I've had three males who independently complimented me on this fragrance so far, which never happens with any other fragrances that I've used.

The second one is the Roses De Chloé  which is a sister to the Chloé EDP above.  It's similar to the original one as it is also has the perfect balance. Yet the touch of rose just brings this scent to a different level. If I had to compare the two, I would say that this rose version is slightly warmer than the original. My sister uses this perfume and she loves it. Tanya Burr also mentioned having received many compliments whilst using this in her August favourites about two years ago in her Awesome August series.

The last one is Marc Jacob's Daisy. This scent is more mature than the other two, whilst still having the floral notes coming through. While I was working in a large makeup retailer some time ago, I distinctly remember serving this lady at the fragrance counter. She told me how her husband and her brother actually complimented her on it, and it was at that moment when she knew this was a keeper.

I know that perfumes may be quite a pricey gift for Christmas, but for the special closed ones, I think it's worth the splurge. This is those gifts that you know they will get much use from. Definitely worth the pennies if you ask me!

Of course, there are more fragrances that I've yet to uncover and I love to find out more. So what is your classic fragrance?

note: My exams are finally over! A big thank you for all that have been patient with me the last two weeks. Also, the Clear Skin series will resume after the festive holidays.

  1. Great post! :) I'm looking for a new signature fragrance... which out those listed above would you say is the softest?... for those with sensitive noses.

  2. Hi lisa!
I would say that the orignial Chloé EDP would be the softest out of the lot, but the white Marc Jacobs Daisy ( Eau De Toilette) might just work as well. Of course, fragrances are such a personal thing. Do have a go with the samples to see what suits you best :)
